Frederick John Sager was born in Cincinnati, Ohio December 18,1936 and died September 23, 2025, in Sebastian, Florida. His parents, Edna Schnuecke Sager and Frederick Julius Sager preceded him in death. He grew up in Des Moine, Iowa and later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he graduated from Emerick Manual High School in 1954. Two of his children, Shalla Kay Sager and Scot Frederick Sager preceded him in death. His daughter, Myra Jo Bryan, survives. He is also survived by his wife of 40 years, Sally Markwith Sager and two stepchildren, Jeff Papacek and Nancy St. Claire. He had two grandchildren, Bill Baldridge and Christopher Baldridge, three stepchildren, Andrea Papacek, Jake Papacek, and Kate Lynn Papacek and nine great- grandchildren.

He was a member of ROTC in high school and was pitcher for his high school baseball team. Upon graduation he joined the Indiana Air National Guard. He was called up to active duty during the Berlin Crisis in 1961.

He attended Franklin College and Indiana University in Indianapolis. He was a general supervisor for one medical laboratory as well as owner/operator of another medical laboratory in Kokomo, Indiana, until he retired in 1998. He moved to Charlotte, NC and owned a cabin in Franklin, NC until he ultimately moved to Sebastian, FL.

He enjoyed playing tennis and golf. He was an avid woodcarver who took great pride in carving and presenting eagle head canes honoring Purple Heart recipients, as well as carving many other things including antique black powder weapons.

He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous with over 32 years of sobriety.
