Frederick Smalley Obituary

Frederick L. Smalley, Sr., 81, of Branford, died peacefully May 29, 2013 at Connecticut Hospice. He was the devoted husband of Vardis Trojanoski Smalley for 58 years. Fred was born in New York, NY, July 13, 1931, son of the late Frederick and Rose Smalley. He attended Branford High School and just before graduation he was taken out of school to serve in the Korean Conflict in the U. S. Army with 102 Tank Company, 43rd Infantry Division. He was a member of the VFW Post 10186 and the American Legion Post 83 of Branford. Fred was dedicated to his church and community at Trinity Episcopal Church in Branford. He was the owner of Shoreline Septic Tank Service for many years. He served on the RTM and was chairman for many years of the Litter Committee. Fred loved to be out working in his garden, and he was an avid Yankees and Rangers fan. Besides his wife he is survived by his loving children, Jennifer (Richard) DeHay of Colchester, CT, Frederick Smalley, Jr. of Durham and Richard (Kate) Smalley of Branford, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, of whom he was very proud. Relatives and friends may call Monday morning from 8:30-9:30 am at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford, and are invited to a funeral service Monday at 10:00 am in Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
