Frederick P. Smith, 84, of Amherst, and formerly of Vermilion, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025 at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born January 22, 1941 in Vermilion, Ohio, where he lived most of his life before moving to Amherst six years ago.
Fred worked for Herk Excavating as a dump truck driver for more than 20 years, he had also worked for Belu and Son for several years. He was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church and enjoyed golfing, cheering on the Cleveland Browns and Guardians, and spending time with his family-especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Beverly (née Huey) Smith of Amherst; his children, Frederick P. Smith Jr. of Vermilion, David (Donna) Smith of Vermilion, Brian (Melissa) Smith of Amherst, and Heather (Pudge) Morell of Lorain; grandchildren, David Jr., Kyle, Kaylee, MacKenzie, Colin, Tyler, Christopher, Owen, Alana, Annie, and Gracie; and great-grandchildren, Brantley and Brady.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Eleanor (née Corlett) Smith, and several siblings, including his brother Martin Smith.
Family and friends are encouraged to wear their favorite Cleveland Browns gear and gather on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29, 2025 at 12:00 noon at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
