Frederick Sutton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rundus Funeral Home & Crematory on Nov. 21, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Frederick "Fred" Ronald Sutton, 74, of Broomfield, Colorado, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, with his wife, Janice, faithfully by his side.
Fred was born on September 26, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, to Frederick Louis and Dorothy Marie Sutton. He grew up in the Chicago area. As a boy, Fred joined the Boy Scouts, was elected into the Order of the Arrow, and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. His experiences in scouting helped shape the character, integrity, and leadership qualities that became defining traits throughout his life.
Fred attended college at Iowa State before serving in the United States Air Force, after which he transferred to Southern Illinois University to complete his education. It was there that his lifelong partnership with Janice was forged. They married on September 15, 1979, in Fairview Heights, Illinois, and built a life grounded in steadfast love, deep friendship, and a shared sense of humor. They were each other's best friends, delighting in everyday moments, raising a family and being grandparents.
Early in his working life, Fred realized he was meant to be an entrepreneur rather than follow the corporate America path. He believed in being of service to others, and he achieved that by creating his own commercial real estate company, which was successfully operated for over 30 years and specialized in serving the healthcare industry. Fred became known for his natural ability to connect with people, his generous mentorship, and the long-lasting friendships he forged with clients and colleagues alike.
Fred enjoyed many things in life, including golfing, fly fishing, and travel. Some of his favorite everyday moments were simple ones, morning coffee with The Wall Street Journal, and later in life, The Epoch Times. He enjoyed family dinners and holidays, as they meant time shared with loved ones, all of which brought him tremendous joy.
Fred is survived by his wife, Janice Sutton; his daughters, Heather (Richard) Kunckel and their son Conrad; and Holly (James) VandeHoef and their children, Hudson, Riley, and Camden, who was born one day before Fred's passing. He is also survived by his sister, Gail (Dan) Schourek.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Louis and Dorothy Marie Sutton.
Though we take comfort in the fullness of the life Fred lived, the depth of our grief reflects a simple truth: all sorrow comes from something ending before we are ready for it to end. Fred's passing leaves an ache equal to the love he gave, quiet, steady, and profound. Yet even in this grief, we hold close the memories, laughter, guidance, and presence that will continue to shape us for the rest of our lives.
A celebration of Fred's life will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Rundus Funeral Home in Broomfield, Colorado. An interment will be held at Broomfield County Commons Cemetery directly afterward. A celebration of life luncheon will take place at the Hotel Boulderado in Boulder. Guests may arrive between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM, with lunch beginning promptly at 1:00 PM. The family suggests contributions to Tunnel to Towers https://t2t.org or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/.
