Frederick Walters Obituary

Frederick Anthony Walters passed away on July 29, 2023, at the age of 86 at Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence, RI. Born on October 12, 1936, in Providence, he was raised in Pawtucket by his mother, Sally (Barone) Walters along with his sisters, Dorothy (Walters) Downes and Gladys (Walters) Brown and his brother Clifford Walters. He served in both the Army and Air Force in the 1950s and was stationed in Korea at the young age of 17.

He married the love of his life, Marie (Sorel) Walters in 1963 and they moved to Attleboro, MA to raise their family. Fred was an engaged and loving father and he and Marie were a strong team throughout their nearly 60 years of marriage. Together they instilled in their children the importance of family, education, and doing the right thing. He was an intelligent, witty, and warm-hearted man who was truly passionate about his family.

In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his three children: Kathleen Tierney of Halifax, MA, Rebecca Paul of Pembroke, MA, and Matthew Walters of Pawtucket, RI. Fred was also a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Jordan Paul, Sydney Paul, Owen Paul, Nathan Tierney, and Elizabeth Tierney. Additionally, he was Uncle Fred to numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Fred was employed at Texas Instruments in Attleboro for over 30 years before retiring in 1998. His retirement was spent traveling and helping to raise his grandchildren.

He was a self-educated, avid reader and talented writer, contributing many letters to the editor at the Sun Chronicle over the years. Fred loved camping and traveling, but above all, he cherished spending time with his five grandchildren. They were the light of his life, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments.

Fred was known for his sense of humor and his knack for telling captivating stories. His grandchildren quickly learned to approach his tales with a critical ear, often double-checking the facts with their grandmother. Despite his age, Fred had an undeniable connection with young children, who were drawn to his youthful spirit.

Fred will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Without Mr. sretlaW I never would have known that Attleboro had both hot and cold water tanks thanks for all the great funny stories and book recommendations. One of his favorite books as I remember, Pillars of the Earth is now my favorite as well. He will be missed.
