Frederick Charles Wettlaufer (Fred), age 86 years, was originally from Long Island, NY and moved from Oradell, NJ to Port Orange, Florida in 1995.
On Friday, August 1, 2025, with his wife by his side, Fred passed into his final peaceful sleep, free of pain, after a long, difficult battle.
Fred went to Choate Boys School in Wallingford, Conn. Before completing college, he joined the Army and worked as an administration specialist. He delivered classified papers to the to the border of North and South Korea.
After his discharge from the Army in 1962, he took a job with the post office in Massapequa, NY. while seeking a different career. He went to work with First National City Bank, and then accepted a position with Chase Manhattan Bank, NYC, as a currency trader, where he traveled frequently and often went to the office in Bermuda.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents Frederick W and Wilma Wettlaufer. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Cherith, his sons Michael (Corina), David (Vicki), and daughter Dawn (Jim). He had eight grandchildren: James (Ariedna), Jesse (Danielle), David F., Katie (Damon), Jessica (Chris), Jimmy, Allison, and Emma, and a great grandson, Grayson.
Fred was a remarkable person whose warmth, kindness, and wit touched many lives. He was loved by many people who will have wonderful memories of their time with him that will always stay in their hearts.
The funeral will be held on August 18, 2025, at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at 2 pm for a military service. A celebration of his life will follow.
