Fredrick Brooks "Fred" Remington

Fredrick Brooks Remington"Fred", age 95, Rochester, NY, passed away peacefully Friday, August 12, 2022.

Fred was born in Rochester, NY on June 9, 1927. Following his high school graduation, he entered the Merchant Marines in 1944 to serve in WWII at age 17. He was a radio operator who sent Morse code from the Merchant ship to Washington, DC. He fondly remembered his 18th birthday where he was playfully tossed into the ocean by his crewmates who affectionately called him "Junior." He always remembered bobbing in the warm South Pacific water, looking in the distance at the mountains of Bora Bora and thinking how far he was from home. After WWII, he attended Syracuse University followed by the University of Rochester, where he graduated as a medical doctor (MD). An accomplished jazz pianist, he chose Psychiatry over being a career musician. He and his wife settled in Rochester and raised a family in Pittsford, NY. He devoted his life, for over 50 years, towards caring for his patients. He retired in 2015 at the age of 88.

Preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Beulah; sister Jane Remington (Carter); wife Claire; and son, Frederick. He is survived by his daughter, Marie Remington (Rossborough) and her husband, Tom; son, Paul Remington and his wife, Fenglian; grandsons Weston Rossborough and Lucas Remington; and granddaughter, Jenna Rossborough.

A graveside service was held in Pittsford Cemetery, Pittsford, NY.
