Freeman Willis Moser III

Freeman Willis Moser III, 64, of St. Louis, MO, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Freeman was born January 22, 1962, in Waterloo, the son of Freeman Willis Moser Jr. and Florence E. (Cutshall) Moser.
He graduated from Cedar Falls High School and attended Northwestern College in St. Paul, MN, and The Culinary Institute of America. After working as a professional chef in Hawaii and Washington, DC, he returned to Cedar Falls to help his father run Freeman's Café. He later attended Iowa State University, earning his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management. Freeman went back to teach at the Culinary Institute of America, where he was deeply devoted to teaching. Freeman went on to have a long career in the food and beverage industry where he brought purpose and passion to every kitchen. He retired in 2023 to do what brought him the most joy – spend time with his children, go fishing, frisbee disc golf, and cook delicious food. He passed away suddenly in St. Louis, MO.
Survivors include his daughter, Abigayle Elaine Moser of West Lafayette, IN, and his son, Freeman Willis Moser, IV, of Patterson, NY; two sisters, Jan (Greg) Crespi of Dallas, TX and Jill (Steve) Mathey of Urbandale, IA; two nieces, Mandy Gebel of Johnston, IA, and Tiffany (Dirk) Westerly of Urbandale, IA, and a nephew, Scott (Brittney) Crespi of Allen, TX, and three great-nieces, Amaya LaVae and Ashlyn Ann Gebel of Johnston, IA, and Callie Mae Westerly of Urbandale, IA; and a great-nephew, Landry James Westerly, of Urbandale, IA. Preceded in death by his parents, Freeman W. Moser, Jr. and Florence E.(Cutshall) Moser, formerly of Cedar Falls; and his aunt, Beverly (Moser) Campbell, formerly of Waterloo.
Services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 31st, at Richardson's Funeral Service in Cedar Falls, with a private burial in Orange Township Cemetery in Waterloo. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 30th, at Richardson Funeral Service, and for one hour prior to services, Saturday at the funeral home.
