Freeman Hiatt Purvis, age 95, of Centerville, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.
Freeman was born on August 5, 1928 in Iconium, Iowa, the son of Roy (Francis Leroy) Purvis and Essie Marie (Hiatt) Purvis. He was united in marriage to Mary Nadine Guffey on October 21, 1950. To this union, four children were born, Gary, Terry, Jerry and Billy.
Freeman raised show dogs throughout his life, and traveled many places showing them. In his free time, he enjoyed mushroom hunting, baseball/softball, hunting, going to the casino, and most of all, time spent with his family.
Left to honor Freeman's memory are his children, Gary (Kathy) Purvis, Terry (Patty) Purvis, Jerry (DeAnne) Purvis, and Billy Purvis; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Shaun) Sage, Stacie (Nate) McCoy, Jarid (Rachel) Purvis, Lesley Cook, Doug (Tina) Cook, Andy (Rebecca) Purvis, Beau Purvis, and Cody Purvis; a granddaughter-in-law, Stacey Purvis; 25 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; his sister, Florene Brown; as well as several extended family members and friends.
Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, Roy (Francis LeRoy) and Essie Purvis; his wife, Mary Purvis on February 18, 2020; his grandson, Joe Purvis; and siblings, Floyd Purvis, Ferrell Purvis, Forrest Purvis, Francis Purvis, and Frona June Purvis.
Funeral services for Freeman will be held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 10:00AM-11:00AM. Memorials have been established to either the First Methodist Church or Golden Age Care Center, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Purvis family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
