Barbara Purvis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rainey Family Funeral Service on Feb. 8, 2026.
Barbara Bell Purvis, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026. She was born to the late W.C. Bell and Nell Oliver Bell. Throughout her life, Barbara was deeply passionate about her family and friends. She was an active and athletic spirit, enjoying playing basketball in high school. Barbara also cherished her faith and was very proud of her walk with the Heart of Georgia Walk to Emmaus, a journey that enriched her life and her connection with others. Her love for life was evident in everything she did, from crocheting baby blankets for the community, to reading books from the library for the blind, to tuning in to her beloved Braves games. Barbara loved to travel, exploring new places and making memories along the way. She was dedicated to staying connected with loved ones and volunteered her time with the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce. Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Bell, and her grandson, Chandler Forrest Wright. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Cary and Lara Purvis of Cordele; her daughter and son-in-law, Leigh Purvis and Denny Wright of Macon; and her grandchildren, Caroline Purvis Alexander (Andrew), William Carroll Purvis Jr., Amelia "Mia" Marie Purvis, Austin Taylor Wright, Laralee Belle Wright, and Emma Kate Wright. A funeral service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 11:00 am, in the Chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 am, prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Americus, GA.
