Freida Lorraine Adey was born on August 12, 1927, in Licking, Missouri, to Benjamin Franklin Ritz and Clara Agnes (Fulk) Ritz. She passed away peacefully at her home on April 12, 2025, at the age of 97.
Freida was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; brother, Walter Ritz; sister, Carolyn Ryno; granddaughter, Whitney (Cornick) Knapp, and son-in-law, Philip Cornick. Left to mourn her passing are daughters, Loretta Cornick, Lois Harris (husband Rick) and Judy Bowker (husband Wayne); grandchildren, Steven Harris (wife Holly), Darin Bailie (wife Tena), Michael Harris (wife Mary), Tanya Waskiewicz (husband Tony), Chad Harris, Jaimi Nash (husband Josh), and grandson-in-law Paul Knapp; sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Freida graduated from Licking High School in 1945. She married John Wayne Adey on April 28, 1948. They resided in Licking all their lives, raising three daughters. Freida loved God and her family. Her faith in the Lord was strong and felt by all who knew her. She was a long time member of the Licking Church of Christ, and attended faithfully until her health prevented it. Freida enjoyed volunteering at the Sonshine and Rainbow Day School and loved the many little children that passed through the school. Freida was an excellent cook and often helped prepare meals for church functions. She worked at Rawlings Sporting Goods and retired after 27 years.
Above all Freida was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved each and every one and was always proud of their accomplishments and looked forward to visits from them. Family, friends and acquaintances were welcome in her home, where they would always be offered something to eat. Her cooking ability was well known and often someone would stop in just for a piece of her pie, especially the chocolate pie. Freida loved gardening and could grow anything. She always had beautiful flowers on display in her yard and home. Freida sewed many quilts, embroidered gifts and handmade crafts for her family over the years, and everything she made has become a treasured memory. She loved to read and could always be found in her favorite chair with a book, and her Bible was a daily read. Freida's family were her most precious gifts, and she loved cooking for them, going on family picnics, sharing holidays and always Sunday dinners at her house. In her retirement years, she traveled to many beautiful parts of our country with her husband, Wayne, both enjoying those trips together, making unforgettable memories during their 65–year marriage.
Freida would give you her last dollar if you needed it. She was generous, kind, humble, forgiving, patient and loving; and the best mom, grandmother and nana her family could have ever had. God sent all of us to this amazing woman in one way or another. She was our home base, and lived in the same house her husband, Wayne, built for them for 50 years. She will be missed and loved always and forever!
Freida will be laid to rest at a small graveside service in Arthur's Creek Cemetery on April 26, 2025, at 4 p.m.
