Freida Elise Shealy Koon, 86, of Prosperity, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at her home.
Born March 25, 1939 in Prosperity, she was the daughter of the late James Earl and Adelaide Derrick Shealy. She attended Fairview School through the fourth grade, then attended Prosperity Grammer School and graduated from Prosperity High School in 1957. She retired from the Newberry County Probate Court and was a member and Golden Ager of Macedonia Lutheran Church.
Frieda shared her love with her immediate family and extended family with her great joy for cooking. She appreciated her home and yard always being spotless, manicured and well tendered. Everyone was always welcome in her home and never left without being offered something to eat.
In her younger years she participated with the Fairview Community Center, taught Sunday School at church and made sure that her girls got to participate in piano, dance, scouts and youth group.
She married Richard O'Neal Koon on July 27, 1957 and was happily married for 66 years until his passing on December 13, 2023. She and Richard enjoying traveling and she always supported Richard in his business endeavors and jobs.
Surviving are daughter, Kathey (Neal) Eargle of Prosperity; sister, Linda (Jake) Frick of Little Mountain; son-in-law, Moe Baddourah; grandchildren, Reece O'Neal Eargle, Seth Bryan (Tina Ragan) Eargle, Kallie Elise Eargle, Zeke Baddourah and Eli Baddourah. She was predeceased by daughter, Angie Baddourah.
A graveside service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Macedonia Lutheran Church Cemetery by the Reverend Terry Hundley. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to the Fairview Emergency Complex, 149 Seibert Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.
