Clarissa Mae Williams Hendrix, 78, of Newberry, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Prisma Health Heart Hospital Richland.
Born on February 23, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Joel Bolin and Thelma Hancock Williams. Clarissa was a graduate of Newberry High School and obtained her undergraduate degree from Presbyterian College and later received her masters degree from the University of South Carolina.
She began her working career at Whitten Center in Clinton and in 1984 began a 38 year career with the Newberry County Public Schools having retired in June 2022. Clarissa was a dedicated and passionate special education teacher and was an advocate for all people with unique abilities.
She was a member of Wightman Methodist Church where she was a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class and SOS (Sister’s on Standby). She was a member of Bush River Community Center.
Clarissa is survived by her husband of 56 years, David Hendrix, Jr.; daughters, Holly Myers and Heather (Mickey) Armstrong both of Newberry; grandchildren, JD Myers, Cullen Myers, Kella Battiste, Kathryn Armstrong and Charleigh Armstrong and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 pm Monday, October 6, 2025, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home by the Rev. Jason Edwards. Entombment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
