Freida M. Smith

Freida M. (Burton) Smith, age 87, of Spencer, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Hearthstone Health Campus in Bloomington, Indiana. She was born in Monroe County on May 27, 1938, to J. Woodrow and Audrey (Gilmore) Burton. On December 24, 1954, she married Loris Smith in Spencer. Freida retired from Cook, Inc. and had previously worked at RCA and Sarkes Tarzian. Freida enjoyed attending country music shows, spending time with her family, and going on convertible rides with Loris. She was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church in Spencer.
She is survived by her son, Jerry (Mary Ann) Smith; grandson, James (Rhonda) Smith; great-grandsons, Matthew Smith and Michael Jacobson; sister-in-law, Pam Burton of Bedford; and four nephews.
Freida was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Loris; granddaughter, Angela Dawn Smith; and siblings, Donna Burton and Larry Burton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home, 105 N. Montgomery Street, Spencer, Indiana.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00pm.
Burial will follow at Chambersville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church or to a charity of one's choice.
