Frieda Houston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home - Independence on Jan. 28, 2026.
Frieda Mae Houston (Glaser) of Morning View, Kentucky, passed away on January 24, 2026, at the age of 85.

Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley Glaser and Hilda Feebeck; her life partner, Harold Bowman; her sons, Darryl and David Houston; her brother, Stanley F. "Butch" Glaser, Jr., and her sister, Marcella Riddle.

Raised in Northern Kentucky, Frieda graduated from Simon Kenton High School in 1958. She later settled in Morning View, where she built her home over time-often with the help and involvement of her six children, making it not just a house, but a place shaped by family and shared effort.

Frieda retired from Cincinnati Bell, where she worked as a lineman. Never one to stay idle, she soon discovered a new interest and went on to serve another decade with Continental Airlines as a bag loader. No matter the job, Frieda took pride in her abilities and her appearance-always dressed nicely and put together.

An outdoorswoman at heart, Frieda found peace and purpose in nature. She hunted deer, rabbit, and squirrel, fished anywhere she could cast a line, and gardened with care-growing big, beautiful flowers, fresh food to share, and the beloved scent of lily of the valley. The outdoors was her sanctuary with God, where her conversations and prayers with Him were constant and unending.

Family was central to Frieda's life. She poured her love into her children, encouraging their creativity and independence-providing a kiln so her son could make pottery, and opening her home to family for holidays gathered around a table filled with food. Her favorite celebrations were New Year's Eve and the Fourth of July, times marked by togetherness, tradition, and joy.

Frieda's legacy of hard work and love for her family will be remembered fondly by her children; Dan (D'Anna) Houston, Valerie (Kevin) Gallagher, Gregory (Lori) Houston, and Harold Douglas Houston, siblings; Patricia Hattendorf, and Barbara Dunn, grandchildren; Chuck, Andy, Paul, David, Marcus, Bobby, Julia, Brian, A.J., Jessica, Shelby, Rebecca, Bethany, and Alex, as well as her great-grandchildren; Fred, Sadie, Gavin, Harper, Rosie, Jack, Eli, Emily, Ezra, Maxwell, and McKenzie.

Please join her family and friends at the Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29th from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. Her service will follow at 6:30pm.
