Frieda North Obituary

Frieda Mae North, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. A visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 1, 2024, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A private burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. She is survived by a son, Michael (Susan) North, and their children, Thomas and Jennifer; her daughter, Karen (Kurt) Wilson, and their children, Shonna and Traci; six great-grandchildren, Quinton, Hayden, Dylan, Ne'Vaiya, Kingston, and Lyric; two siblings, Avis Serovy, Nell Driscoll; and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Dick; siblings, Maxine Harris, Bonnie Kale, Wanda Blake, Ray Rich, Harry Rich, Marion Rich, and Idabelle Rich. Frieda was born on July 16, 1932, in Walker, Iowa, the daughter of Mervil and Edith (Lovell) Rich. On June 7, 1952, she was united in marriage to Richard North in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They shared 52 wonderful years of marriage, until Dick was called away in 2005. Frieda's early years of marriage were spent being a homemaker and mother to Mike and Karen, and running Northland Pines Resort in Hackensack, MN until 1972. She did not return to work until 1979, and from that time until she retired in 1996, she spent giving her time and talents to Stamats Communications. Frieda loved her work, bowling, and the people she was involved with. She was inducted into the Women's Bowling Hall of Fame in 1996. Frieda's memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and her legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
