G. Randall Maharg Obituary

G. Randall Maharg, of Butler, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025, at the age of 91.
He was born in Chicora on Feb. 16, 1934, to John C. and Grace (Clingensmith) Maharg.
His early years were full of music and a love of singing in church, earning victories on the school basketball team and proud moments as president of his Butler High School graduating class of 1951.
A lifetime of work ranged from work at his father's insurance business, as a construction inspector for PennDOT, and in several positions serving Butler County governing departments until his retirement. But it was his time spent as a young man pumping the family oil wells in an early era of Pennsylvania crude oil production that he spoke of with the most nostalgia and satisfaction.
His greatest pride was the deep Maharg family history of business establishment, education, hand-built early Keystone bridges and the construction of the original farm estate, now the Succop Nature Park, accomplished across Maharg generations in Butler.
His true joy in life was the laughter shared with his grandchildren and family times, and company spent with his lifelong "buddies."
He is survived by his children, Richard (Jovy) Maharg and Ronald Maharg; his grandchildren, Lena and Owen Maharg; and constant family presence/niece, Julie (Mike) Walker; as well as a large extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Stella (Cipolla); sister, Twyla (Meeder); and brothers, Mark B., John W., J. Melvin and W. Dean Maharg.
MAHARG - There will be no public visitation or services for G. Randall Maharg, who died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025.
Randall's simple final wishes were honored with care, cremation remains will rest at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery. His hope for those who wish to honor his memory or pay respects would be to do so in their own faith or chosen manner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Randall's memory to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (Butler County), 220 South Main St., Suite 307, Butler, PA 16001, namibutler.org/donate.
Arrangements have been entrusted to THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
