On Saturday, December 20, 2025, with her enduring and ever-present childlike faith, Gail Cheek walked into the loving presence of her Lord and Savior.
A daughter of the late W. A. and Ruby Tabor Sims, she was born February 17, 1939, in
Durant, Mississippi. She was a graduate of the Jackson Secretarial school in Jackson, Mississippi, and worked as a legal secretary for many years. She moved from Mississippi to Georgia in 1994 where she spent the remainder of her days residing in both Habersham and Stephens County.
Gail was a Proverbs 31 woman. She was a strong, wise, and capable woman who embodied godly wisdom through her diligent work, trust in God, and service to others. Described in scripture as being more valuable than jewels, she brought good to her community and family. Her faith was solid, her purpose clear, and her love for her Lord and Savior unquestioned.
Gail met Ben Cheek in January of 2001 on a blind date arranged by his daughter. They instantly found a connection and a love for each other and were married on September 22, 2001. Together they enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and spending time with friends. Gail was an active member of church wherever she lived. She participated in Sunday School, bible studies, choir and served on mission trips. After she and Ben married, she became an active member of Toccoa First Methodist Church and the Koinonia Sunday School class. Gail served her community in many ways, but she loved serving in the Soup Kitchen and did so in both Habersham and Stephens County.
Gail and Ben shared a blended family, but a family grounded in faith and love. Gail was preceded in death by her parents, W. A. and Ruby Sims; husband, Jerry Harpole; and one daughter, Susan Adair Buhmann (John).
Surviving family include her husband, Ben Cheek; and a blessing of several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial service was Monday, December 22, 2025, 3 p.m., at Toccoa First Methodist Church with The Reverend Jamie Hudgins and Mr. Ken White officiating.
The family received friends at Toccoa First Methodist Church Cheek Hall on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. until the service time at 3 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at
www.acree-davisfh.com. Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Toccoa First Methodist Church, 333 E. Tugalo Street,
Toccoa, Georgia 30577; Open Arms Clinic, 109 Big A Road,

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and the many wonderful caregivers that stood by their side, The Clary Center and staff for their loving support over the past year and a half, and the personal caregivers that became family over the spam of her illness: Rosalee Clarke Heights, Veronica White, Lucinda Henson, and Brandi Bowden. The love and care they provided was a blessing we can never repay and will always be appreciated.
A private family entombment will precede the memorial service in the Stephens Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Ina Gail Sims Cheek.
