Gail Alma Goritski Sutphen

Gail Alma Goritski Sutphen 66, of Rougemont, died on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Duke University Hospital. She was born in Paterson, New Jersey. Mrs. Goritski Sutphen was the daughter of the late Edward Goritski and Claire Eleanor Redfern Hammond. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Kevin Hammond.
Mrs.Goritski Sutphen is survived by her loving husband, Russell Sutphen; two daughters, Lisa Marie Schavlay and KateLynn Dawn Cusick; her step-father, Hugh R. Hammond Sr; two brothers, Hugh R. Hammond Jr, Eddie Goritski; one sister, Edna Goritski Myers; and three grandchildren, George Schavlay Jr (Mallory), Brittany Schavlay and Madison Schavlay.
A celebration of life will be held at Vans Bar 7909 Cassam Rd in Bahama, NC on November 8th starting at 2:30pm.
When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, That an angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand; The angel said my place was ready, In Heaven far above, And that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love. But when I walked through Heaven's Gates, I felt so much at home, for God looked down, smiled at me, And told me "Welcome Home." So when tomorrow starts without me, Don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right there in your heart.
