Gail Elizabeth Carroll Hehir, April 19, 1933, to October 19, 2025, was the daughter of the late Thomas and Victoraine Carroll, and the sister of the late Vicky Gilcrest and the late Thomas Carroll. She was born and raised in San Francisco, graduating from Presentation High School in 1951 and from the University of California, Berkeley in 1955.
She had a loving and wonderful marriage to William Hehir for 47 years before his passing in 2007. Gail spent her 41-year career as an elementary school teacher, with her last 36 years at the Union School District (De Voss, Noddin, Carlton schools). After retirement, she was an active volunteer with the Assistance League of Los Gatos (serving as President, Vice President, and Secretary) and for the Arts and Environment Committee at St. Mary's Church. She enjoyed traveling the world with her family and friends, spending time at her Tahoe cabin, cheering on her Cal Bears, and becoming a fan of watching the San Francisco 49ers and Golden State Warriors. What she enjoyed most was spending time with her children and grandchildren, celebrating holidays, going to their school events, sporting events, musical performances, shows, and as many high school and college graduations as possible. In her last year, she was able to enjoy her family by going to Hawaii before Thanksgiving, Disneyland to see the holiday decorations, and Arizona to attend ASU's graduation ceremony.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Carole (the late Mark Schmitt) Schmitt, Bill (Kristin) Hehir, Gail (Bob) Kulick, and Barbara (Scott) Olsen. Devoted Grandmother to Victoria, Matthew, Elinor, Patrick, Keith, Christina, Morgan, William, and Mark. She was also a loving Aunt to her 7 nieces and nephews and their children.
Friends are invited to attend a Rosary at 10:15 am and a Funeral mass starting at 11:00 am on Monday, October 27th at St Mary's Church, 219 Bean Ave, Los Gatos. A private burial will be held at a later date.
