Judith Gail Veerman, known affectionately as Gail to her friends and family,
passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, in Batavia, Illinois. Born on June
11, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, to Tommy and May Bright. Gail's life was a
testament to her unwavering spirit, her love for Christ, and the love she
poured into the lives of those around her.
Gail's early life in the Detroit suburb of Hazel Park was filled with learning
and creativity. She graduated from Hazel Park High School in 1960 and
went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education with a minor in Art from
Eastern Michigan University. Her education laid the groundwork for her
lifelong passion for teaching and design.
A year or two after college, Gail was invited to a class for new believers.
There she heard the gospel and placed her trust in Christ as Savior and
Lord. Soon after, she became close friends with staff from Youth for Christ
and soon joined them in the ministry.
The year 1967 marked a pivotal moment in Gail's life when she met her
beloved husband, David, through Youth for Christ--at the Rose Bowl Game.
Their courtship blossomed into a beautiful marriage on June 14, 1969, at
Calvary Baptist Church of Hazel Park. The couple initially settled in Des
Plaines, Illinois, where Gail resumed her teaching career. After several
years in Campus Life ministry in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, their
journey took them to Louisiana with three-year-old Kara and Dana was
born. Gail embraced the role of a caring mother with open arms.
Eventually, the family moved to Naperville, and Gail transitioned into a
successful career as an Interior decorator, showcasing her innate talent for
creating beauty in the spaces around her.
Gail's love for adventure was shared with her husband, Dave, as part of the
"Cruisin' Crew."; Together with friends, they embarked on grand trips to the
Mediterranean, Israel, the British Isles, the Baltic, and more. These travels
were among the many joys of her life, filled with laughter and memories
that would last a lifetime.
Gail's infectious sense of humor was one of her most cherished attributes.
She had the unique ability to laugh at herself, often exclaiming, "I can't
believe I did that"; Her laughter was a gift that she generously shared, even
humoring Dave by laughing at his jokes. Gail's selflessness was evident in
every aspect of her life, especially in her devotion to her family. Although
she was not fond of cooking, she did it with love and worked tirelessly
alongside Dave in building church teams and ministries, guided by their
shared faith in Christ and commitment to service.
Gail's legacy is carried on by her cherished husband of 56 years, Dave, her
adored daughters Kara Conrad and Dana (Walter) Niesluchowski, and her
loving grandchildren Natalie (Jacob) Fopma, Amy Conrad, Lindsey Conrad,
Edmund Niesluchowski, and Elise Niesluchowski. She was also a proud
great-grandmother to Damian Krajeski. Gail's memory will be honored by
her siblings-in-law Ralph (Lynne) Veerman, Paul (Darian) Veerman,
Barbara (Charlie) Havens, and Philip (Shelley) Veerman, as well as by the
extended family and a multitude of friends whose lives she touched.
Gail was predeceased by her parents and her brother, the late Gary
(Suzanne) Bright, whose memories remain a cherished part of her story.
Described best as faith-filled, loving, and selfless, Gail's impact on the
world around her was profound. Her servant's heart was evident in every
action, and her legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire all who
knew her. Gail Veerman's life was a beautiful portrait of service, laughter,
and love-a life truly well-lived. She will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will
forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones.
