Gail Webster Obituary

Visit the Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home website to view the full obituary.

Our beloved Auntie Gail passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on October 8, 2024. Gail was born in 1940, the eldest child of John “Ja” and Stella “Babchi” Hoey, both whom predeceased her. Gail was also predeceased by her niece, Melissa (Hoey) Setterlund of Paxton in 2015. Gail leaves her husband of 53 years, Sidney “Sid” Webster of Worcester, her siblings Carol O’Connell and John Hoey and his wife Donna, both of Worcester, and Joanne (Hoey) Barron and her husband Tom, of Westminster, Colorado. Gail was the loving aunt to 13 nieces and 11 nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews, all of whom she cared for like they were her own children.

Gail grew up on her family’s “block” in the Green Island neighborhood of Worcester, where she lived for the remainder of her life. Gail graduated from Commerce High School in 1960 and worked as a dispatcher for the Worcester Police Department and later, as a claims analyst for Fallon Clinic.

Gail enjoyed crafting, decorating her home every holiday season with wreaths, snowmen, ghosts, or her cherished guardian angels. Gail took great pride in her baking, and she loved sharing her homemade cookies, breads, and delicious whoopie pies with everyone. Always by each others side, Sid and Gail would pack their nieces and nephews into the car and travel up to the Fryeburg Fair in Maine, down to Amish Country, PA and out West to Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore. Family was the most important thing to Gail, and there was nothing she wouldn’t do, or wouldn’t bake, for anyone who asked. She will be forever loved and never forgotten.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Gail’s medical team at Mass General Hospital, especially, Anne Fiore who was a constant support throughout the years.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Gail's life with a visiting hour on Wednesday, October 16th from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester.  A funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, 44 Temple St, Worcester followed by burial in St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street.

In lieu of flowers, the family request consideration of a donation in Gail's name to St. Jude’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
