Gaitha Nell Davis, age 83, of
Van Alstyne, Texas passed away at home surrounded by her family on January 9,2026
She was born in Direct, Texas, the daughter of Willie Leo Dockray and Margie Marie (McHenry) Dockray. She met and later married the love of her life John Dunagan Davis on January 14, 1961. They were married almost 60 years before he preceded her in death in June of 2020.
A true matriarch, she lovingly raised two children, Glenn Davis and Shelley Davis Carter and was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Her home and her heart were always open. In addition to raising her own family, she poured herself into the lives of many other people's children, offering guidance, stability, and unconditional love to all who crossed her path.
She had a remarkable gift with her hands and her heart. Through countless hours of sewing, she clothed her family and blessed her community, creating not just garments but lasting expressions of care. Every stitch was a quiet act of love.
Her sense of humor was legendary quick-witted, warm, and often perfectly timed. Laughter followed her wherever she went, even in difficult moments, and it was one of the many ways she brought light into the lives of others.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She faithfully served on staff at a Christian church camp, where she touched countless lives through her work, her kindness, and her testimony. She boldly and lovingly witnessed to many about her love for Jesus, firmly believing that He was in control. Her trust in Him was unwavering, and she lived with a deep peace rooted in that confidence.
Above all else, she loved fiercely her family, her community, and her Savior. Her life was a living example of service, humility, and steadfast faith. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the lives she nurtured, the faith she shared, and the love she gave so freely.
Gaitha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John D. Davis, siblings, B.J. Dockray, Marie Briggle and Jerry Dockray, grandson, Justin Glenn Davis and great granddaughter, Cambrey Blair Carter.
She is survived by her son, Glenn Davis and wife Janice of White Oak, Texas, daughter, Shelley Carter and husband Todd of
