Gale Campbell Obituary

Gale V. Campbell, 77, of Penn Township, passed away peacefully at home on July 23, 2025. He is survived by his two sons Andrew J. Campbell of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Richard J. (Maren) Campbell, and grandchildren Hudson and Sylvie Campbell of Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by his brother Paul (Carlyn) Campbell of Summersville, Missouri, and his beloved dog Daffy. Gale was preceded in death by his loving companion, Jane Yelanich of Baldwin. He was also preceded in death by his brother Dean (Nadine) Campbell of Jefferson Hills, and his parents Thurman James and Bella Irene (nee Goodboy), of Versailles. Gale was a graduate of McKeesport High School and Penn State University, where he earned a B.A. in Psychology. He also served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Gale spent his career as a Supervisor with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's Southwest Regional Office, where he tirelessly worked to keep our rivers and forests clean from pollution. Gale was an avid lover of the outdoors, and inspired his sons with a love of camping and wilderness. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout early in life, and gave back through active mentorship to the Boy Scouts of America later in life. An active bowler and golfer, he loved to hunt and relax at camp but most of all he loved being out on his sailboat with friends and family. Gale was known for his fun-loving and ornery spirit, and he knew how to have a good time with all around him. He was known for many signature sayings, and could often be heard quoting "A man's got to know his limitations" from Dirty Harry. Some of his favorite times were watching Steelers football with his friends at the Manor American Legion Post #472 and playing bingo with his friends at the Norwin Elks. He also loved to give back to the community and spent many years volunteering with the Christian Layman's Corps of Greensburg, where he worked as a handyman for those in need. Though nicknamed "Gilligan" as an avid sailor by his sailing friends, his sons just knew him as Dad. He was an amazing and devoted father who would take his sons on adventures around the country, inspiring them through his love of camping and the wilderness. He supported them in their own passions, and was always there for help and advice when they needed it. He was a one of a kind person, a loving father and will be missed dearly by all that knew him. A private service for immediate family was held at WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME of Irwin, PA. There will be a Celebration Of Life locally for the many family and friends of Gale to share stories, pictures, and tales of his unique life. The family requests any parties seeking further details on the event reach out to [email protected]. Memorial contributions can be directed to Animal Friends shelter at https://thinkingoutsidethecage.org/. Sail on; there are no more storms or choppy waters ahead of you, only clear skies. Follow the lighthouse home on one last voyage, and we'll see you on the other side Dad.

knew Gale from the Norwin Elks....He loved the 'oldies' music and would talk to me about all the music when he attended the dances there. Such a nice polite gentleman and so sorry to hear of his passing. RIP Gale....... Judy
