Gale Minor-McCain Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Volk Leber Funeral Home - Oradell on Apr. 5, 2023.
Gale Minor-McCain entered eternal rest on Tuesday, April 4, 2023
The youngest of the late Nana Mae Minor's three children, Gale was born on June 22, 1958 in Newark, NJ. She received her primary and secondary education in the Newark Public School system and is a member of the Vailsburg High School Class of 1976. She enrolled at Seton Hall University that fall with plans to study nursing.
During her formative years, she lived with her older brother, Clifford, and his wife, Carol, and attended Randall Chapel Unified Freewill Baptist Church, in Newark with her Nana, Louise Fuller. She loved singing with the choir and traveling to other churches for choir anniversary celebrations. As an adult she joined Little Zion Union American Methodist Episcopal Church, located in Belleville, New Jersey. As a member there she served as a Steward, Workshop facilitator and Emergency Food Pantry volunteer. For the last ten years she served as Missionary President and First Lady.
She also taught teens and young adults in the church school at Little Zion, bringing them truth according to God's word, in her most unique fashion. Her honesty and joy of the Lord turned her into a second mother and extra auntie for several of her students. Looking for a deeper and fuller relationship with God, she also took several classes at Boulden Seminary.
Gale continued singing in the choir, this time with the Gospel Chorus, which always made her happy and garnered her the nickname "Mahalia," for her voice could carry across the street when the church doors were open.
For over 30 years Gale worked at Optimum as a dispatcher and customer service representative where she was known as "Ms. Gale" until her early retirement in 2019.
On a sweltering Saturday on the 28th day of April 1990, she married Dwayne S. McCain at Grace UAME Church in East Orange. They lived in Newark, NJ for many years raising their children and more recently spoiling their grandchildren. For Gale, family was everything and she poured into her children the importance of having a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She gave it straight to everyone on life as a single mother and as a wife. Many Sunday afternoons were spent cheering for her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. And there were many summer days spent on the shores of Wildwood, NJ where she would help create memories for her children and their cousins and friends.
Gale leaves to cherish her memory her husband of over 32 years, Rev. Dwayne S. McCain; along with their son, Gregory Washington (Michelle), their daughters Katina and Charmaine McCain, grandsons William A. Washington and Mason A. Singleton and granddaughter Savannah M. L. Washington. Also cherishing her memory are her sisters-in-law (Carol Minor, Elaine Fuller, Runette (Pat) Fuller, Roslyn Fuller and Deborah McCain), her brothers-in-law (Darren McCain (Lourdes) and Robert McCain, her aunts (Joyce Roberts and Clarice Edgar) God-daughters (Candyce Mohammed, Valerie Wright, and Naomi Wiggins) and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her brother, Clifford J. Minor and sister, Barbara Minor.
