Garnold Scurry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Edwards and Son Funeral Home, Inc. - Bridgeton from Oct. 1 to Oct. 2, 2025.
Garnold F. Scurry, born in Elmer, New Jersey, February 13, 1964, left this earth Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the age of 61. "Gooch," as everyone called him, resided in Bridgeton most of his life. He was the 7th child in the line of 12.

Gooch was not afraid of a challenge and never shied away from trying new things, especially, when it came to FISHING. Gooch was educated in the Upper Deerfield and Bridgeton school systems where he graduated in 1985. He attended Cumberland County College studying Criminal Justice. Although he loved all sports, Gooch was an avid New York Giants' fan. In addition, Gooch loved his 'Annual Crab Feast Weekend' with his lifelong friend Ernest Lee Tucker-McCoy, Sr. He loved listening to Sade and Lee Williams, "I Just Stopped By."

Gooch was definitely an introvert! A person of few words but deep reflection. He found beauty in solitude and meaning in the small details of life. As an uncle, sibling, and friend, his loyalty and steady support were unwavering. He would help anyone in need. He had a heart of gold! Gooch's exceptional ability to relate to children was phenomenal, although he had none of his own. His nieces and nephews of all ages loved their "Uncle Gooch" as he did them.

Gooch would often be seen with one of several close cousins: The late Stanley Burrus, Max Scurry, Terry Victor, Jerry Victor and Tyrone Victor.

Gooch didn't seek attention, but he earned admiration. He didn't chase the spotlight, but he leaves behind a quiet legacy of authenticity, calm, and care.

Gooch is predeceased by his parents James Williams Jr, George D. Simpson Sr and Dorothy Simpson; his grandparents Holly Scurry Sr, Callie Scurry, James Williams Sr and Lillian Williams; four brothers, Ronald Simpson, Ricky Dawkins, Walter Dawkins and Jimmy Williams, III.

He is survived by 11 siblings: Robert H Simpson, Florence(Nelson)Ruiz, George(Jeannette)Simpson, Jr., Juanita(Marvin)White, Donald Scurry, Jerome Scurry, Dorothy Garrison, Edward Scurry, Colleen(Lowell)Reddie, Callie(Benjamin)Wynder, Barbara (Chip)Ward, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
