Garry Lee Bennett of Okeene, Oklahoma went home to meet his Lord and Savior on December 24, 2024 with family by his side. Garry was born in Alma, Nebraska on January 5, 1949. He married Sharon Newman on July 25, 1972 and was married for 52 years.
After many occupations in the oil field and city public works, Garry found his most rewarding job as a custodian for Okeene Public Schools and retired after 30 years. Garry also enjoyed lawn care and being a handy man for various family friends of the community.
He was involved in the Flame Youth Group and was known as Pappy to all the kids who attended. He also helped with the renovations of the NRC building. Garry always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. He was an honest man who was not afraid to loudly play his praise and worship music and speak about the goodness of God.
Garry is survived by his wife, Sharon Bennett of Okeene; sons, Garry Earl Bennett of Okeene and David Bennett and wife, Jeana Bennett of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Jasmine Sessions, Kayla Bennett, Derrick Bennett, Jenna Matousek, Camiel Spangler and husband, Dominick Spangler, Tori Bennett, and Timothy Bennett; great grandchildren, Kirie Bennett, Maliah Bennett, Casey Bennett, and Hudson Molnar. He is also survived by many extended family members, friends, and the Okeene community.
Garry is preceded in death by his Grandma and Grandpa Lowe; mother, June Lowe Boone, and father, Earl Bennett; siblings, Carolyn Murray, Sharon McDonald, Wayne Bennett, Jackie Bennett, Howard Bennett; daughter, Tracy Herron; son, Albert Bennett, and grandchild, Austin Bennett.
Service for Garry will be Monday, December 30, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Okeene Zion Baptist Church with burial following at Collins Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Okeene. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made out to the NRC building fund through the funeral home. The Bennett family wishes to thank the supporting family members and friends who have helped during this difficult time.
