Garry Alan Burks, 73, of Washington, passed away at his home on March 25, 2026.
Garry was born on February 1, 1953, in Monroe County, Indiana, to Delmar James and Jessie Burks. He married Kathy (Bledsoe) Burks on March 11, 1972. Together, they shared 51 years of life, laughter, and love before her passing on March 17, 2023.
Garry was raised in Greene County before graduating from Washington High School in 1971. He worked at Railway for several years before beginning his career with the Daviess County Highway Department, where he remained until his retirement.
Garry enjoyed going coon hunting and spending time outdoors—often seen riding his John Deere lawn mower around. Throughout his life, he especially enjoyed telling good stories, just as much as everyone else loved listening to them. Over the years, he shared wisdom, guidance, and countless laughs with his family and friends. If you needed an answer for something, he was always your person.
He is survived by his son, Christopher (Jill) Burks, and daughter, Lana Burks, both of Washington; his grandchildren: Kerstin Burks, of California; Maggie Burks, of Washington, Indiana; Ian Hill, of Newburgh, Indiana; Reid Burks, of Washington, Indiana; and Allison Hill, of Evansville, Indiana; as well as his sister-in-law, Jeannie Burks, of Washington, Indiana.
Proceeding him in death are his beloved wife, Kathy Burks; his parents, Delmar James and Jessie Burks; and his brother, James “Randy” Burks.
A private service will be held at a later date.
