Garry Lee Stehle passed away on August 28, 2025 after a battle with leukemia at the age of 80. He was born July 11, 1945 to Francis Green Stehle and Herbert C. Stehle in National City, California, but he always like to say, "But I came to Texas as soon as I could!! " because the family moved to Texas the same year. They eventually settled in Midland, Texas in 1957, where Garry graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1963. He attended Wayland Baptist College and met his wife, Molly Kirchner, in the summer of 1964 while they were both working at Commercial Bank and Trust, and they were married July 30, 1965 in Crestview Baptist Church in Midland.
Garry served in the U.S. Army and he and Molly spent 2 years in Augsburg and Munich Germany before returning with the 24th Infantry Division back to Fort Riley, Kansas where he was honorably discharged.
After moving back to Midland, Texas he began working for the Bridgewater family at Midland Savings and Loan and later was transferred to the DFW area where he was employed by Equitable Savings in 1971. In 1973, he and Molly moved to Lubbock, Texas where he opened the first state wide approved branch of a savings and loan,.
After living in Lubbock and making some wonderful life long friends, they moved to Del Rio where he became President of First Savings and Loan in 1975, and their one and only child, Summer, was born in 1979.
After First Savings was sold in the 1980's, they moved to the DFW area where he worked until being transferred to run a new savings and loan in San Antonio.
After the S&L crisis, they moved back to Del Rio and bought Mayflower Moving and Storage and later Del Rio Mini Storage. After Garry's health started failing, they decided to sell the businesses and retire.
After battling bladder and kidney cancer and beating it bravely several years ago, he was diagnosed with AML which proved to be unbeatable.
Garry was actively involved in the Del Rio community with the Chamber of Commerce and LAFB serving as President of Military Affairs for many years, acquiring more great friendships with the Air Force community.
He is survived by his dear wife of 60 years, Molly, his beloved daughter, Summer MacLean (John), his adored grandson, Jackson, his brother Murry Stehle (Lanell) of Brady, Tx, and several nieces and nephews. and last but not least, his much beloved cats of which there are many.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memoriums be given to the AARC of Del Rio or to the American Cancer Society.
