Garry Wangler Obituary

GARRY LEE WANGLER Garry Lee Wangler, lovingly known as "Moose," left this world on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in his hometown of West Branch, Michigan, where he was born on April 2, 1955. He lived a life rich with love, laughter, and the spirit of hard work, traits that endeared him to those who had the privilege of knowing him. In his professional journey, Garry dedicated himself to the asphalt industry, skillfully operating a wide range of equipment from backhoes to semis. His passion for machinery was matched only by his devotion to his family farm. As a proud member of the Union Local Operating Engineer #324, he contributed deeply to his community through labor and fellowship. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #2022, West Branch Eagles, and Moose Lodge. Garry also shared his culinary talents as a cook at the American Legion in Florida, where he spent three days a week during the winter months, bringing joy to many with his delicious meals. Beyond work, Garry enjoyed a well-rounded life filled with hobbies that brought him happiness. He was an avid bowler and golfer, and although he could not swim, his love for fishing took him to many beautiful spots. Garry had a special relationship with his Harley, finding freedom in the open road. Those who knew him understood that his greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends, creating memories that will forever be cherished. Garry's legacy lives on through his beloved children, Jason (Katie) Wangler and Melissa (Brad) Bertossi, and his stepchildren, Rochelle Thorson, Travis (Carrie) Thorson, and Ole Thorson. His heart swelled with pride for his grandchildren, Jason (Katie) Malone, Emily (Michael) Meress, Cori (Trevor) Munson, Triniti Bertossi, Faith Wangler, Taite Bertossi, Erica Hottois, Erika Thorson, Archer Thorson, and Crystal Thorson, as well as his great-grandchildren, Quinn, Brantlee, Kimber, Myles, and Adelynn. Each of them held a special place in his heart. Garry is also survived by his dear siblings, Dave (Shelly) Wangler, Steve Wangler, Sharon Wangler, and Rick (Lori) Wangler, his significant other, Diane McLean, and her children, along with the mother of his children, Shirley Coln. He shared a bond with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will carry his spirit with them throughout their lives. He is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip "Junior" and Betty (Ehinger) Wangler, his brother Grant, and his wife Emily Wangler. Their memories are a guiding light, and the love shared will continue to be felt in the hearts of his family. Visitation will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Ogemaw Hills Free Methodist Church in West Branch on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Pastor David Kurtz will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in West Branch. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to K of C #2022 or Ogemaw FFA. As we remember Garry, let us hold close to the laughter he brought, the kindness he shared, and the legacy of love that will endure in the hearts of all who were touched by his life.
