Garth was a beloved cousin - real family in every way. Our lives were entwined in a way that few could understand. He was my closest neighbor until my career took me on a distant journey and him even farther to Korea. But we always remained in touch. He was like another son to my parents. He, his bothers and I and mine filled our youths with baseball games, squirrel hunting and fishing in Socogee Creek - the body of water that ran through our veins and forever baptized us and our closeness. His Spirit will always be present in the pines, cypresses, beeches, sweet and black gums that line that Special Creek in Deadwood that nourished our bodies and Souls.
