Garvin Thorp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 31, 2026.
Garvin Elias Thorp, passed away peacefully in his home on March 21,2026.

Garvin was born February 25, 1937 to Pearl and Herald Thorp in Geneva, NY where he graduated as a star athlete. He then went on to study at the University of Oswego, where he would receive a bachelor's degree in education.

After graduating, his life began as a true renaissance man, who was blessed with a multitude of talents. Garv was an All-Star athlete in both high school and college, where he played basketball, football, baseball and ran track. Even with his small stature, he became a giant presence on the court and off the field to those whom he loved and cared for. From an incredible artist and musician to a master mathematician, teacher and Euchre player; Garvin truly excelled at anything he put his mind to. That is unless it was anything having to do with water. "I sink like a rock," he would say.

Garvin was a man that always provided for his family. His long list of occupations very clearly reflects as much. He was a teacher, coach, shop-owner, and even spent time working on Wall-Street. After all that, he managed to retire from Xerox after more than 25 years of being a leader to many along the way.

More than anything Garv was an exceptional family man. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather and friend to anyone with the good fortune of meeting him. With unconditional love and unwavering generosity, he will always be remembered as a beautiful soul and a truly gifted man.

He is survived by his wife Terry, sons Garv (Nancy), Todd (Kim), Jason (Erin), Cory (Lauren), and his beloved grandchildren Michael, Nathan, Moriah, Maddy, Sophie, Benjamin, Lily and Azul, his 1st Great Grandchild (Michael's son).

There will be a memorial held in celebration of Garvin's life on May 16, 2026 from 2pm- 5pm, at the American Legion in Webster (818 Ridge Rd Webster NY, 14580).
