Gary Adams

Gary Adams, age 79, of Manter, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas. He was born January 2, 1947, in Syracuse, Kansas, to Forrest "Frosty" Adams and Elizabeth "Toots" (McCandless) Adams.

Gary graduated from Manter High School in 1965, then from Panhandle State University in 1969. He married Betty Freeman in Texhoma, Oklahoma, on December 22, 1967. After teaching elementary school in Garden City and Johnson, he began a long career in construction, resulting in the building and remodeling of many homes in Stanton County and surrounding areas. He was also instrumental in the building of Stanton County True Value and was named the Kansas State Small Businessperson of the Year in 2008.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Adams, of the home; children, Teresa Carter and husband Richard of Littlefield, Texas, John and wife Kirsten Adams of Gonzales, Texas, and Amy Kelm and husband Jerry of Plainview, Texas; grandchildren, Lauren (Zeb) Petty, Shayla (Johnathan) Edwards, Brendon (Brooke) Carter, Birgen Adams, Clayton Adams (fiancé Shelby), Allen Kelm, and Kylie Kelm; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Fred "Sonny" Adams, and an aunt, Martha Adams, in-laws, Jimmie and Faye Purvine, Fred and Nancy Freeman, and John and Lois Metcalf; multiple cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, A.C. Allison; brother and sister-in-law Forrest "Pudge" and Romona Adams; sister-in-law, JoAnn Adams; and in-laws, Jerry and Reba Freeman.

Funeral service will be Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson with Pastor Eric Miravete officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with family present from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
