Gary Parson Baber

Colonel Gary Baber, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and distinguished military leader, passed away on 7 March 2024, at the age of 84, peacefully in his sleep. Born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on 13 March, 1939, Col Baber dedicated his life to serving his country with honor, courage, and selflessness.

He rose through the ranks of the Air Force with unwavering dedication and a steadfast commitment to duty. Throughout his distinguished military career, Colonel Baber exemplified the highest standards of leadership, integrity, and excellence. He served his country with distinction, was a Vietnam war veteran, earning numerous awards and commendations for his valor and leadership under pressure. As a commanding officer, Colonel Baber inspired those under his command with his unwavering resolve, his strategic vision, and his compassionate leadership.
 
He was deeply respected by his fellow servicemen and women, who looked to him as a mentor and role model. Beyond his military service, Colonel Baber was a devoted family man who cherished spending time with his loved ones. He was a source of strength and guidance for his family, instilling in them the values of loyalty, courage, and sacrifice.

In his retirement, Colonel Baber continued to serve his community and his fellow veterans, always striving to make a positive difference in the lives of others. He remained an active member of the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association, serving as their South Texas Chapter president for many years. He also volunteered at Fort Sam Houston, assisting wounded service members receiving treatment at BAMC from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He belonged to the Freedom Flyers organization devoted to Vietnam POWs, organizing a yearly fund raising event at the Randolph AFB golf course to raise scholarship money and honor Vietnam POWs.

Colonel Baber leaves behind a legacy of honor, service, and sacrifice that will forever be remembered and cherished by his family, friends, and comrades-in-arms. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Colonel Baber is survived by his wife of 64 years, Raymond Baber, his children Amy and Tim, his grandchildren Sean, Arthur, Timmy, Mercedes and Sarah, as well as his two great grandsons Julian and River. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all his immediate and extended family as well as his friends and Air Force comrades.
