Gary Bates Obituary

Gary P. Bates, 76, of Manchester, NH passed away on January 30th , 2026 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Gary was born on October 29, 1949, in Manchester, NH to parents Ferdinand and Delphine (Somers) Bates.

Gary originally attended the Maynard School (for seeing impaired students) before transitioning to Blessed Sacrament School. He graduated from Bishop Bradley High School in 1968 and later attended Hesser College. Following college, Gary worked at Tel Labs in the facilities department before joining Devine Millimet as a facilities manager for 35 years. Gary also worked in facilities for the law firm of Abramson, Brown and Dugan, where he continued to work post-retirement. Gary also worked at the firms of McDowell & Morrissette, PA and Merrill & Broderick. Gary absolutely loved his work and the many relationships he had with the individuals at those firms.

Gary leaves behind his sister Beverly (Bates) Shaw, of Brattleboro, VT, a brother Richard Bates of Manchester, NH and a sister Cynthia (Bates) Marquis of Weare, NH. He also leaves behind four nephews, three nieces and twenty-two great nephews and nieces.

Gary belonged to the League of a Thousand Men at the Precious Blood Monastery in Manchester. Gary loved his home and if he was not working inside his house, he was out working in his yard. Gary loved to cook, shop, and spend time with family and friends.

SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Elm St. Manchester, NH 03103 on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 11 am. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 65 Old Bedford Rd, Bedford, NH 03110.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital.
