Gary Bowman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Center of Kansas City - Shawnee Mission on Mar. 20, 2026.
Gary Lee Bowman, born on October 5, 1943, in Fort Scott, Kansas, peacefully passed away on March 12, 2026, in Shawnee, Kansas, at the age of 82, with his loving wife beside him.

Gary dedicated over 43 years of his life to Yellow Freight (YRC) as the manager of records, where he managed a large team of employees. His professional commitment to YRC was rivaled only by his devotion to his family.

Gary was a cherished husband for over 54 years to the love of his life, Debbie. Together, they created a loving home and shared countless memories. He was a passionate fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, and he found great pleasure in visiting Melvern Lake, savoring a cold beer after tending to his immaculate yard, and spending time with his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Known for his warm and welcoming nature, Gary found great joy in connecting with others and was a constant source of support for his family. Whenever a loved one faced a challenge, he was the first person they turned to and was always ready to listen, wanting to help in any way he could. He taught his daughters the values of strength and independence, and was a respected role model to his sons-in-law.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Dorothy Bowman; his sister, CarolSheeley; his brother, Robert Bowman; and his beloved daughter, Pamela Benanti.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his devoted children, Lori Daly (Eric) and Deanna McPeake (Jonathan), and Shelly Bowman. His legacy continues through his loving grandchildren: Ben Alaniz (Kayla), Vantz Rucksdaeschel (Katie), Nik Rucksdaeschel, Tahlia Benanti, Andrew Harper, Ethan Lane (Olivia), Shaylee Oster, Maggie Lane, Hastin Terry, Lauryn Daly, Jack Daly, and Isabella McPeake. Gary was proud to have the title of Great-Grandpa to his great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Gary's life will be held at Life. Church on April 4th at 9 a.m..located at 9800 W 135th St, Overland Park, KS 66221.
