Gary Brousseau Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sly Family Funeral Home on Aug. 20, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Gary J. Brousseau, 57, of Chardon, tragically passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, while on an evening walk. Born on September 29, 1967, in Ravenna, Ohio, he was a lifelong resident of Geauga County. Gary was the beloved husband of Kathy Lynn Brousseau for 12 wonderful years; loving father of Emily Brousseau, Joshua Brousseau, Gabrielle Brousseau, Lindsey (Braden) Cook; cherished grandfather to Christopher, Winston, Cole and Cirilla; son of the late Gerald Brousseau and survived by his mother, Rejeanne Marie Brousseau (nee Fex); brother of Jeffery Joseph (Pam) Brousseau.

Gary was a dedicated family man who was always the first to lend a helping hand, asking for nothing in return. His home was the heart of many family gatherings, filled with love, laughter, and plentiful hugs, where he would proudly share his latest cooking creations. Gary's unwavering love was also evident in the way he cared for his three kitties, Marley, Zoe, and Chloe. They were an extension of his family, showered with affection, treats, and endless cuddles.

As an avid outdoorsman, Gary cherished hunting and fishing, especially when it was with those closest to him. Even building custom tree stands for elder friends to tag along. For him, it wasn't about the biggest buck or largest fish; it was about the peacefulness of the woods, the calmness of the water, spending time with loved ones, and napping in treestands.

Gary was a master mechanic throughout his 30+ year career, which began at a vocational school in Newbury, Ohio, where he learned to work on small engines, advancing to larger engines and eventually specializing in custom large truck builds for O'Reilly Equipment. He always knew the trick for the fix. Even restoring a 1967 coupe Mustang that won the Cleveland Autorama.

He will be greatly missed by all who know and love him.

Family and friends to meet Saturday, August 23rd, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a Celebration of Life at Veterans Legacy Woods, 14085 Ravenna Rd, Newbury Township, OH 44065. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) in Gary Brousseau's memory. 2045 Morse Road

I met Gary when I had first moved to Ohio from New York. We worked together at a lawnmower repair shop in Chagrin Falls. Before long I had met his family, and not much longer after that I was living in their home. That was the type of person Gary and his whole family was. Willing to extend a helping hand to a young stranger who became a friend and treated me like family. Unfortunately life, time and distance took us in different directions and it´s been many years since we last spoke. I´m glad I had the opportunity to know you Gary. Unfortunately it has taken this sad moment in time for me to remember my friend. Heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

I heard of this news today on Facebook.. I grew up with both Jeff and Gary. I've known Gary over 50 years, he was a huge part of my childhood. He was the one that let me shoot my 1st gun. basically to get me to be quiet while we were "hunting" I was talking and laughing way too much.. Kept scaring the "game" He was also the boy that would make sure to throw my sister Ira and I in the pig pens and through the barn trap door, stinking up the back of a truck on our way to Canada for our family vacation our 2 families would enjoy. So many fun and fond memories. I cant wrap my head around that he is gone.. we kept in contact through the years through Facebook, we would catch up on life and our family. He will be missed.. I pray for Kathy and the family though this heartbreaking time. My heart goes out to you all.
