Gary Buch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John J. Buettgen Funeral Home - Schofield on Mar. 4, 2026.
Gary Lee Buch, 76, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born on December 10, 1949, to the late Earl and Arlene (Koenig) Buch. At the end of Gary's working life, he worked as a Project Engineer for Jacobs Engineering. His time with the company took him on many great travels, including a trip to France.

Gary was a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose warmth and humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was the devoted father of Cara and Chad. Nothing brought him greater pride than his family. He cherished his role as Grandpa to Nicholas Gestner, Caitlynn, and Alyssa, and Great-Grandpa to Colbie, Ian, Alina and Brayden. His loving, endearing smile made everyone feel like they were the center of his world.

Gary shared a special bond with his son, Chad, especially over the game of pool. He loved playing and took great pride in teaching Chad how to handle a cue stick, passing along not just skill but time, laughter, and memories that will last forever.

A loyal fan through and through, Gary cheered faithfully for the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. Whether watching a game at home or talking sports with friends, he was always ready with commentary, enthusiasm, and plenty of spirited debate.

Gary was truly a social champion. He loved striking up conversations, telling jokes, and making people smile. His humor and easygoing nature drew others in, and his presence could brighten any room. He also enjoyed simple pleasures-going for walks, golfing, spending time outdoors, and connecting with friends and neighbors along the way.

One of Gary's greatest passions was sports cars. He loved everything about them-looking at them, talking about them, reading about them, and especially driving them. He was especially proud of his 280Z, which brought him immense joy and countless stories. For Gary, a drive wasn't just a trip; it was an experience.

He is survived by his children, Cara (Tim) Gestner and Chad Buch; his grandchildren, Nicholas Gestner, Caitlynn (Justin) Major, and Alyssa Buch; his great-grandchildren Jacey Major, Colbie and Ian Gestner, and Alina and Brayden Hernandez; his sister, Debbie Buch; and his sister-in-law, Debbie Buch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Arlene Buch, and his brother, Darrel.

Gary will be remembered for his humor, his love of family, his passion for cars and sports, and the way his smile made everyone feel special. His legacy lives on in the laughter he inspired, the lessons he shared, and the deep love he had for his family. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 13, 2026, at John J Buettgen Funeral Home, 948 Grand Ave, Schofield. Visitation will take place from 12:00 pm until the time of services at the funeral home. Julie Eder will officiate. Burial will take place in the Stettin Christian Cemetery.
