Gary Byington, 86, Passed away in Avon Park FL on December 29, 2025. He was born November 1, 1939 in Pepin County, Wisconsin to Ted and Helen (Robelia) Byington; the oldest of 6 children. He graduated from Arkansaw High School in 1957. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, at which time he served part of his enlistment in Germany. He married his high school sweetheart Jane Keys in 1958 and they raised 4 children. He worked in several professions including retail sales, real estate, newspaper advertising and executive director of the Pepin County Housing Authority. Gary said many times that between owning the grocery store in town and driving bus for Pepin Area School he knew every child in the district and where they lived. Gary and Jane traveled extensively through out the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Asia. He also completed many volunteer mission trips to the Caribbean and Central America. He visited 49 states missing only Rhode Island. He enjoyed traveling by motorcycle and RV. He continued to ride motorcycle until just before his 86 birthday. He was also an avid bird watcher. He is survived by his children Christy (James) Rundquist, Cindy (Keith) Dauffenbach, Jeffrey (Donna) Byington and Angela (David) Kallstrom; siblings June Bosley, Charles (Nancy) Byington and Lana (Robert) Newcomb; sister in law Charlotte Byington; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years Jane; siblings Robin Byington and Faye Byington; and great-granddaughter Isabella Smith. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
