Gary Campion Obituary

Edward "Gary" Campion, 76, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021.

He was born on September 23, 1944, in Abington, Pennsylvania, to the late Edward and Virginia (McCarty) Campion. Gary graduated from high school in 1962 from Bishop McDevitt, in Wyncote, Pennsylvania. He honorably served in the US Air Force from 1965 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. He graduated with a BS in Accounting from the University of Tennessee in 1970. Gary was a true entrepreneur, owning several businesses, including Chairs of Indiana and Repcor. He also invented the Perfect Pet Gate where his Border Collier, Babe, was the inspiration. Gary was a very talented individual and could do almost anything he set his mind to. He was a poet, singer, and songwriter and played guitar by ear. After a 13-year courtship, he married Rebecca Shackleton on September 15, 2010, in New Albany, Indiana. He will greatly missed by all that knew him.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Rebecca J. Campion; son, Robert Bryan (Ines) Campion; son, Edward Trevor (Karen) Campion; stepdaughter, Stephanie (Andy Shanks) Caswell-Shanks; sister, Marilyn Allen; brother, Bryan (Debbie) Campion; sister, Denise (Brad) Bentz; sister, CherylAnn (Gary) Kendle; 7 grandchildren, Bailey Monte, Sydney Campion, Nate Campion, Kyler Campion, Dillon Campion, and Emily (Ann) Darnell-Miller; Brittany Terry; fur babies, Babe, Socks, Smokey, and Al; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - New Albany (3309 Ballard Lane). His Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 13, 2021, at St. Mary's Navilleton Catholic Church with inurnment to follow at New Albany National Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.

The family requests that contributions in Gary's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
