Gary Carter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson McQueen Funeral Homes - Tyrone Family Tribute Center on Nov. 12, 2024.
Gary Carter, born June 7, 1947 in Xenia, Ohio took his final breath on January 13th at Alhambra Health and Rehab center in St. Petersburg, Florida. He had a long journey through sickness and health but was able to pass peacefully in his sleep. He is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Carter, his son, Jerry Carter, his parents, Harold and Geraldine Carter and his sister Jean (Kenny). He is survived by 3 daughters, Missi Carter, Kristen Parr (Mark Elliott) and Heather Brookey (Scott Brookey). He is also survived by 3 granddaughters, Kassandra Oglesbee (Dustin), Michaela Wipperman, and Lyndsey Carter, grandson Wyatt Carter and 2 great grandchildren, Oliver and Colby. He was lucky enough to be loved by many. He was an amazing dad to three daughters and a son. He was an admirable son and brother. His greatest time was likely spent with his granddaughters and grandson. The children always seem to bring out the kid in him, too. His employment at ProMac Inc. was impactul to many as it was the only company he ever worked for starting as a teen into retirement. He worked as a professional machinist. He was a simple man who enjoyed taking care of the lawn, relaxing in his recliner, and hanging out at the casino for some fun Tmes with our mom, Susan. Always a country boy, he enjoyed fishing and trapshooting, as well. He always gave people the benefit of the doubt and believed there was good in most people, always taking care of those who needed it. He loved his family and endured many hard losses over the years. He always put his head up and carried on. His mission in life was to embarrass his daughters and granddaughters in a joking, loving way, of course. He would talk to boys we thought were cute or say something he knew would make us blush. We were lucky enough to do a lot of traveling as kids, he made the back of the truck a perfect little hotel room for us girls, with a fold out couch, plenty of snacks, drinks, and pillows for comfort. He drove us to see the whole nation and even some things we didn't necessarily care about. I think we all find that to be pretty cool now. He was our daddy, and we were his girls. Once we were grown, he was able to spend a lot of time with his granddaughters. I'm sure this was the highlight of his life. They adored him just as much as we did and he provided them with everything under the sun, as a grandparent would want. He worked hard to give all of us a life to be remembered and now we'll spend the rest of our lives remembering him. Love you, Daddy.
