Gary, was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.
He graduated from Whitharral High School in Whitharral, Tx. He married his best friend and love of his life Maria Lilia Barrera, on March 14th, 1981 in Whitharral. He worked for Trico Machine Shop and worked as Machinist and Welder in Levelland for several years. His hobbies were working outside trimming trees and listening to Hard Rock & Roll Music and attending his grand children's sports events Madison, Taylor and Christopher. Gary, spent quality time with all of his family and friends. What Gary would, consider a "good day" when his favorite teams, The Dallas Cowboys, Texas Tech University and Whtharral Panthers would win their games.

His parents Jose Salmon and Orovea Leal Chavez
(3) Brother: Ramiro Chavez, Eddie Chavez, and Luis Chavez
Survivors:
Spouse of 43 years: Maria Lilia Barrera Chavez of Whitharral
Sons: Joshua Michael Chavez of Whitharral and Jamie Christopher (Kara) Chavez of Whitharral
Brother: Danny (Debbie) Chavez of Lubbock
Sisters: Linda Diaz and Elisa (Tony) Rodriguez both of Whitharral
Grandchildren: Taylor Chavez (Zach)- Mulkey, Christopher Chavez, Madison Chavez
