Gary Christensen Obituary

Gary Lon Christensen passed away on Sunday, August 24th, surrounded by his loving family after a recent illness.

He is survived by his loving wife, Julie, of 34 years, his children and daughter-in-law, Jake, Josh, Isaac (Elle), and his siblings Lona Lee (Rex) Estes, Gayla (Don) Bradshaw, Kris (Maxine), and Rex (Debra) Christensen, and many nieces and nephews.

He was welcomed into the arms of our Heavenly Father and his parents, Lon and Betty Carlson Christensen.

Gary was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on July 2, 1959. He moved to Utah at a very young age and was raised in Fruit Heights. He also lived in Tehran, Iran, and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in London, England, under President Robert D. Hales.

In Iran, he enjoyed playing baseball, hanging out with the LDS missionaries, and swimming in the Mediterranean Sea and the Caspian Sea. He had a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee and attended a sunrise testimony meeting on the Caspian Sea, along with many more adventures.

Gary enjoyed bowling, fishing with Uncle John at family reunions and fishing in Ogden Canyon, and playing his 12-string guitar and banjo. During his young adult life, he was a DJ for numerous Young Adult dances. He helped produce an educational children’s television show and had an album made. During his early married years, he enjoyed refereeing church basketball and had an interest in photography. Gary was an amateur meteorologist, had a love for storm chasing, enjoyed ham radios, and was a huge family history buff.

Most of all, Gary loved spending time with his wife and his children, supporting them in all of their endeavors from sports to band. He enjoyed attending baseball, basketball, soccer, and archery events with the family, cheering on his children to victory. Marching band was a favorite for the family, watching the boys participate in the Tournament of Roses Parade and the Macey’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, as well as numerous competitions all over the state. Family was most important to him. They brought him joy.

Gary loved to joke and tease; he had a fun personality and had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. He will be dearly missed.

The family is thankful for the wonderful care that Renew Home and Health Hospice provided for Gary during his last days.

Funeral Arrangements will be on Friday, August 29th, at the Hess Farms Ward Meetinghouse, 1650 South 500 East, Kaysville. Viewing starts at 10:00 am. Funeral Services at 11 am. Interment will follow at the Kaysville City Cemetery.
