Bryant Funeral Homes & Crematory - BerlinGary F. Cooney, 77, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital with his niece Stacey at his side. He was born in Berlin on October 25, 1947 and was the son of the late Francis and Winnifred (Moulton) Cooney. Gary was a graduate of Berlin High School Class of 1965 and was a lifelong resident of the area. A true woodsman, Gary was employed by several local companies as a lumberjack and equipment operator for many years, and was most recently a groomer operator at Wildcat Ski Area prior to his retirement.
An avid sports fan, Gary enjoyed watching sports on TV, time spent playing softball, horseshoes, and darts, going fishing, and spending time with his “Legion Family.” Though he was a man of few words, Gary had a way of getting his point across – sometimes, with just a look.
Gary is survived by his son Jeremy Cooney of Whitefield, NH; his brothers Andy Cooney of Berlin and Patrick Cooney of Berlin; his sister Sandra Solinsky and Dennis of Bath, NH; his brother-in-law Wayne Holbrook of Littleton, NH; his grandchildren Creed and Emily Cooney and their children Hadley, Wren, and Nora, Chandla Cooney and her partner Josh Riley and their children Sumner and Chesni, and Kloey and Trevor Breault and their daughter Maisie; and several nieces nephews, and cousins. Gary was predeceased by his son, Jamie Cooney, his sister-in-law Dianne Cooney, his sister Sharon Holbrook, and his nephew Shawn Cooney.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 10 AM at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin, NH, with interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Berlin. There will be no calling hours. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.bryantfuneralhome.net.
