Gary Cortner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Farewell Funeral Service - Palm Bluffs on Aug. 15, 2025.
Gary Victor Cortner, 78, of Clovis, California, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, surrounded by family in Clovis.

Born on April 6, 1947, in Sanger, California, to Edith Lombardi and Victor Cortner, Gary was a lifelong resident of the Central Valley. His life was one of integrity, joy, and deep devotion to family and faith.

Gary earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry and a master's degree in Criminology from California State University, Fresno. He served with distinction for 32 years as a criminalist with the California Department of Justice, dedicating his career to seeking justice and making his community safer. He continued to share his knowledge and passion as a forensic consultant and taught criminology courses at his alma mater, Fresno State.

Outside of work, Gary was a man of many passions. A talented guitarist, he began playing in a band at a young age and never lost his love for music. He had a keen eye for photography, especially when capturing moments with his loved ones. Gary was also a lifelong Corvette enthusiast and a devoted dog lover. Known for his warm smile, friendly spirit, and love of conversation, he brought joy to everyone he met.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Sandra Cortner; his two daughters, Alysia Ramirez and Tara Cortner; his son-in-law, Ryan Ramirez; and his five treasured grandchildren: Dylan, Zachary, and Greyson Ramirez, and Jackson and Wesley Hefter. His family was the center of his world, and he embraced every moment spent with them.

Gary's legacy lives on in the laughter, love, and memories shared by all who knew him.
