Gary J. Curry Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, cherished Pop Pop, and passionate fisherman, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on November 16, 2025.
Born on June 16, 1955, in Chester, PA, Gary was the son of Marie Burroughs and the late Ralph I. Curry.
On February 8, 1975, Gary married his soulmate, Shirley J. Curry, beginning a beautiful journey of 50 years together-a marriage built on love, laughter, and unwavering support. Through this union, Gary became part of the Hall family, where he was embraced as a brother by four sisters and five brothers-relationships that brought him joy and a deep sense of belonging.
Together, Gary and Shirley raised two children: Gary J. Curry Jr. (Dawn) and Cathy Vandenbraak (BJ). He was a proud Pop Pop to eight-Chad, Erick, Aidan, John, Christopher, Anthony, Matthew, and Kaitlyn and a great-grandfather to five.
Gary was preceded in death by his brother Ralph I. Curry Jr. He is lovingly remembered by his surviving brothers, Dennis Curry and Richard Curry, with whom he shared countless memories.
His life was enriched by the enduring friendship he shared with Gloria and Elbert, his and Shirley's dearest friends-a bond built on love, loyalty, and laughter. Gary found peace and pride in fishing and woodworking. These hobbies brought him countless hours of joy and fulfillment. Just days before his passing, the family also said goodbye to Bella, his beloved dog and faithful companion, who brought comfort and unconditional love to his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on: Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 1:00PM at Talleyville Fire Company, 3919 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and celebrate the laughter, warmth, and wisdom he brought into the world.
