Gary passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends, on May 20, 2025, at age 78. Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Annette DiMora. Survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Diane; sons, Gary (Julie) DiMora, Rick (Christine) DiMora; grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda, Samantha, Jessica, Connor, Jerry; brothers, Joseph (Ann) DiMora, David (Kim) DiMora and several nieces and nephews.
Gary served in the US Air Force from 1966 to 1970 as an Airport Crash Fire Rescue Firefighter and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He served at multiple locations, including Alaska. While still serving, he married his East High School sweetheart, Diane in 1967. After he left the military, he worked 32 years as a Maintenance Mechanic at Kodak doing what he enjoyed, fixing things. You could often find him working on lawn mowers and snow blowers in the garage.
Gary was frequently seen at the Greece Town Yardwaste Recycling Center on Flynn Rd, or as he called it, “The Dump”. He always said “If it’s free, It’s for me”.
Gary loved the neighborhood he and Diane settled down in, raising their two sons, Gary Jr. and Rick. He would always find time to chat with a neighbor, offering up a hand when needed, and they were all part of his extended family. He looked forward to spending time with his close friends at the annual neighborhood gatherings and parties.
Gary had a green thumb at a young age and everywhere the family lived, he had a vegetable garden. He loved watching his garden thrive and grow. He took great pride in his garden, making sure that he planted more than enough fresh vegetables for every visitor to take home. He always had huge tomatoes, green peppers and plenty of garlic. Gary loved showing and talking about all the flowers he had growing around the house. Seeing how they blossomed every spring, brought him great joy. There was also never a lack of birds to watch from his multiple bird houses around the house.
Gary was known for his dedication to his family. He looked forward to every family visit, holiday gathering and spending time with his grandchildren.
While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering.
Thank you to the caregivers at the Unity Hospital 4400 Unit and Hildebrandt Hospice Center. The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. A special thank you to their niece, Debbie Osborn, for always being there for Gary and Diane.
