Gary Leo Dominowski, age 81, passed on Wednesday, December 25th, 2024 Christmas Day with his loving wife and family surrounding him at home in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and several extended family members.
Gary was born November 23, 1943 in Bay City, Michigan to Sophia Marvin (Holysko) and Leo Dominowski. He was baptized December 19, 1943 into the Catholic faith at St. Joseph Church in Essexville, Michigan. Gary grew up as an only child, in a close relationship with his mother.
On March 27, 1965 Gary and Barbara (Beadle) were married in Essexville, MI at Saint Joseph Parish. Gary and Barbara were married for almost 60 years.
Gary graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1964. Upon graduation, Gary began employment with General Motors Corporation in Saginaw, Michigan. Gary's employment also included working at the Saginaw Gray Iron Foundry, worked in Chicago, and started his family with his wife, Barbara, in Kalamazoo, MI continuing employment with General Motors, the Kalamazoo Plant where he received an apprenticeship for tool and die making. Gary retired from General Motors after 35 years where he was a tool and die maker through the course of his career there. Gary retired on June 1, 2001, with this providing the luxury of extra time to spend with his family.
Gary and Barbara have six children including the oldest Laurie (Todd) Arndt, Brenda Werner, Gary James Dominowski, Regina (Mike) Ambs, Rebecca (Eric) Sanders, and Anthony Michael Dominowski.
Gary's Grandchildren include Kurtis (Akiko) Werner, Kevin Werner, Kyle Werner, Kristen Werner, Courtney (Eric) Hines, Katelyn (Zachary) Nelson, Michael Anthony Ambs, Carter Dominowski, Deagan Dominowski, and Wyatt Dominowski as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
Gary will be remembered for his love of fast cars, Chevrolet models of course, Martin Dragway, the Silver Lake Sand Dunes, avid deer hunter, a great water skier, attending hockey games, snowmobiling with his family, attending car shows, his Polish heritage, a proud patriot of his country and especially the love for his family. He will be remembered for his easy going, good natured personality, generous nature and always willing to talk cars. As the paternal family figure, Gary ensured great family memories traveling to the cabin up north in Baldwin, MI with motorcycles, dune buggies and snowmobiles. He also loved to restore and then sell a range of hot rods and custom cars. Gary always put God and family first.
The Family would like to thank the Wings of Hope Hospice for exceptional care, especially the Michelle's, whom Gary and Barbara developed special bonds with during their great care for Gary. Donations can be made to Wings of Hope Hospice.
