Gary R. Ertle, 87, of Massillon, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 10, 1938 to the late Cletus and Helen (Smith) Ertle in Massillon, OH.
A graduate of Washington High School, Gary was a proud member of the Massillon Tigers 1953-1954 State Football Championship Team and continued to be an avid fan for the remainder of his life. Gary also participated in boxing, softball, golf, and enjoyed a competitive game of Pinochle with his friends. Gary's greatest joy was his family, and he made sure they were always loved and supported. He was known for his kindness, warmth, and generosity. Gary was a former co-owner of The Irish Exchange where he created a welcoming atmosphere making everyone feel like an old friend. Gary touched many lives and will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Kathleen A. (Tully) Ertle; their children, Deborah DiLoreto, Wendy Rowley, Kenneth Ertle, and Heather J. (Vicki Hoffman) Ertle; grandchildren, Ross Rowley, Jennifer (Christopher) Wagstaff, and Ryan DiLoreto; and great-grandchildren, Ellie, Rylee, and Nolan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Summer Rowley, whom he shared a special bond; and his beloved aunt, Christine Kester.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2025, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home, Massillon, with a memorial service to start at 6:00 pm.
A special thank you to Gary's team from Absolute Hospice; Emily, Latticia, Kristen, and Paul for their loving care and his loyal friends for their many visits.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boy's and Girl's Club of Massillon.
