Gary Edward Etheridge, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, of Fairburn, Georgia. He was 85 years old.
Born on January 19, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, Gary was the beloved son of the late William and Delores Etheridge. He was the brother of the late Mark Etheridge, who is survived by his wife Gail.
Gary's career as a civil engineer was marked by excellence and innovation. His work spanned many decades and continents, contributing to significant projects such as Hartsfield International Airport, Zoo Atlanta, Qatar Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Underground Atlanta, and the MARTA Rail System. His legacy is etched not only in these structures but also in the lives he touched through his work.
Beyond his professional achievements, Gary had a passion for art and was known for his excellent penmanship, reflecting his meticulous nature and creativity. Gary's involvement with the Boy Scouts of America-Flint River Council as an assistant scout leader demonstrated his commitment to nurturing young minds and fostering leadership skills in future generations.
A man of profound faith, Gary faithfully served the Lord for 67 years. He was a dedicated member of the Fayette Church of Christ. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his character and was evident in his everyday interactions with family, friends, and community members.
Gary is survived by his cherished wife of 64 years, Lynda Etheridge. Together, they built a loving family that includes their sons, Eric Etheridge and his wife Maribel, and Brent Etheridge. Gary was a caring brother to Fred Etheridge and his wife Roberta, Dennis Etheridge and his wife Marlene, Larry Etheridge and his wife Linda, and Shawn Etheridge and his wife Julie.
His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Kyle Etheridge and his wife Holly, Charlize Etheridge, Shelby Etheridge, and Dylan Etheridge, as well as his great-grandchildren, Lorelai and Adelaide. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews, whose lives he enriched with his warmth and wisdom.
Gary's memory will be cherished by all who knew him. His life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and love, and he leaves behind a family united by the values he held dear. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
